Well a whole trimester has gone by and I have successfully managed to keep up with school, college applications, and of course, my Genius Project! To be honest I never thought I was going to be able to pull of as much progress as I did and I am proud of myself for doing so.
Here's a quick recap what my project actually is and the inspiration behind it: I have planned to find, photograph, and upload photos of local murals in and around the surrounding communities of Carlsbad on a website. The website will serve as a portal where hypothetically dozens of murals can be displayed alongside some interesting tidbits about the artist who created it and where the mural is located. This idea came to me while browsing instagram and seeing a bunch of artsy murals that I knew were somewhere in carlsbad but not exactly sure where. When talking to a friend she suggested we go out and try to find some and so we did; finding more than we ever thought were present in the city before. And so, from there, it became my mission or should I say Genius Project to spread the word of the art around us.
Getting started should've been painless but with all good things in life nothing comes that easy. During the heart of my project planning and execution I was inundated with college applications, seminars, and visits. Let's just say the start was kinda choppy; taking pictures here and there, taking pictures one day but not the next, and then having the SD break in the middle of an upload. Ugh so frustrating. Despite my initial struggles I was able to power through and successfully photograph almost 10 separate murals. Next step? Editing the photos. After taking the photos I knew I was going to be uploading them to a website for others to view so i had to make sure that all the colors popped and there were no unnecessary shadows to interfere with the artistry of the piece. For the website I was able to use Wix to create a good template to eventually place the murals in a gallery like composition; similar to that of Instagram's or VSCO's galley layout. Finally I was able to put the images on the website and to put information regarding the artist along with the image.
Continuing on into the next Trimester, I hope to upload more mural art work, add mural artist biographies, and continue to update both my personal and Genius Project websites. Once again, a huge thanks for all your continued support and enthusiasm through my journey and I hope to update you soon.
